Terrible app

Josh Ockert

This should be a good app. However, two inexcusable design decisions make it less than worthless. First, you cannot edit files in it. For whatever boneheaded micromanagement we-know-better-than-you reason, Panic decided to force this "site" metaphor on you. Want to open a source code file you emailed to yourself? Too fracking bad. Second, you can't save files in it. Same reason. You want to upload the files via ssh, go ahead. But if you just want to save them to your iCloud or Dropbox file store, you're screwed. This is the worst piece of software I've encountered on the App Store. I can't for the life of me imagine what the heck Panic was thinking. Their other software is great. Not sure why they had to be so user-hostile in this one. I want my money back.

This is how you get a 1 star review

After cancelling two back to back review pop ups I said to myself “I swear if it happens one more time I’m giving you a 1 star review. 5 seconds later... and here we are.

Good but falling behind

BDBDBD

Overall I like Code Editor for the core functionality of....editing code. However, it has fallen behind in a couple of areas, mostly file management. I am finding it too difficult to move local files into a project on my iPad. After spending too much time recently managing my files, I decided to move on to try a different editor. I seem to remember reading that Panic is working on something new, but until then I would consider other options with a better work flow.

Needs Files Integration!

I’ve been messing around with coding on the iPad by setting up a DigitalOcean droplet and SSHing into it via Coda. That part works great! However, I quickly discovered that you can’t find the coda directory in the Files app. This seems like a huge oversight, and really limits productivity potential. Hopefully this is something coming soon, but based on the year old response to another review, I’m not too confident that it is.

Some great, some bad.

The idea is great and many parts of this are great. But there are missing bits. E.g., this still doesn’t support the iOS file manager, which is baffling. The built in file manager is surprisingly fiddly to navigate around in, which is too bad because this can make various kinds of remote connections which is really handy. And there are various bugs: the ssh client —mostly great — shifts itself left regularly so it gets partly cut off (you have to close the terminal window and open a fresh one). The find-and-replace is bugged. It seems to be searching an older version of the file. It makes it hard to, e.g., reliably change a symbol from one name to another because you can’t rely on “find” to find things. This app could really use some TLC, but it doesn’t look like it’s getting much.

Please support c++

mysakure

C++ is a very important language.i think it is a good choice to support it.

It's cool, but...

It was kind of hard to get used to using coming from a professional developing background using a laptop/desktop and using WebStorm for so long, this is definitely a cool tool to have no doubt. Also having a terminal on an iPad Pro :) always fun... I did notice a weird bug when updating a Sites remote path. Steps to reproduce: 1. Go to sites list and select a site to edit. 2. Choose (world logo) remote tab. 3. Change remote path, and save. After doing that, the app crashes every time i try opening that site...

Everything you need to develop great websites— even a MySQL editor— which is awesome!
