User-hostile

Glitterplum

A user-friendly interface might have made this a useful synth. But I really don't have 40 years to figure this out. This is more of a brain-teaser than a tool to make music. This is even worse than the Peter Vogel CMI app, which is completely useless. The online help just multiplies the confusion. A few of the sounds it generates are interesting, but the microscopic keyboard make playing anything impossible. I suspect that the designers of this app are programming geeks, not musicians. Really this is more like a game than a synthesizer, only it's not fun.

Outstanding tool for invention.

Atarizen

I've used them all; those pesky DAWs, and at the end of the day, SunVox comes out tops. It's the ultimate tool for the mod-head wishing to make new tones, ground up - and blend them in to some really mind bending pattern aggregations. Forget your sad VSTs, come and invent something new you nutter! This is your daydream music laboratory, the be-all and end-all place for pure synthesis. The top names in experimental techno muck-about with this... And they're not wrong - it really is worth learning (it's not that hard) and sticking with. Best of all, I can start something on my phone, and continue it on my PC. I even have a version of SunVox running on a USB stick! Get with it if you're serious about electronic innovation, and start inventing in this champion app.

Uninspiring

The interface is horrible. The workflow is unintuitive. Absolutely the worst music creation app I've ever used. As for sound, it is average at best. Was not made by or for musicians. Complete waste of money and time.

First synth I've been able to program

And while it has a learning curve, I'm having a blast with it.

A Gateway to Understanding

binjothedragon

I can honestly say that this app is what finally allowed me to figure out and understand synthesis and the deeper aspects of how to craft my own sounds. The people saying that this app is the most powerful music making app on iOS aren't exaggerating. Nothing else compares in terms user controls and creative potential.

My favorite iOS music app

Deep, flexible, unique features and well supported by a responsive developer. If you're unsure, try the free Windows, OS X or Linux version. :) For new users, I think it might be helpful to keep in mind that you can create and load instruments and tracks you've made as modules within your other files. Feel free to play around and experiment, it's not difficult to integrate that into other works as you go. It can be a slow burn, but once you build up momentum, I think sunvox is a fantastic 'casual' app because it doesn't stop growing with you and you can't really run out of things to play with and try.

Still awesome

Super flexible ,sounds wonderful , must have !! The best thing is it keeps getting better . It does almost everything . The only two things I can think of . ( I'm not even sure it does not do is 1 multi Timber midi 2 grain synthesis) It has everything else . Plus it has a comfortable user interface on an iPhone 5 . Awesome!
